After a couple of hectic weeks and throwing together a party at the last minute, Lauren finally had a couple of days to relax. She had to get a few final together to send her kids off to camp, but otherwise she felt content. After her brief morning yoga session, she was completely relaxed and ready to face the day.
Lauren was excited because her niece who she hadn’t seen in a few months was coming home that afternoon. Courtney had just returned from graduation after four years at Vanderbilt – four years that seemed like two. Lauren only has one sister and Christopher is only child so this was the first college graduation within the family and Lauren wanted to make it memorable.
Lauren looked back with fond memories on her first few years as a young professional, just out of college. Hard work and some fortunate collegiate internships had landed her a great job at a large marketing firm in New York. She had done quite well there, and thinking back on it she remembered one reason why; her great organizational skills. Lauren’s ability to always be organized allowed her to work smarter and accomplish more than many of her counterparts.
She decided that this was to be her gift. For all of Courtney’s immense talents, organization needed to be a foundation for her to reach her potential. She considered Courtney well organized as is, but some handy tools would certainly help – and of course they had to be cute and stylish. Again, Lauren remembered the hustle and bustle of New York and the one thing that never left her side: her tote bag, packed full of everything she could ever need. Courtney would definitely be needing one of those.
Another handy tool that went a long way for Lauren was her trusty old dictionary. Lauren wasn’t sure what she should get though, because even in high school Courtney had a desk in her room, and she made it her own. A stuffy old leather bound dictionary would get stashed on a bookshelf and never used. Then she remembered the vibrant colors of the monogrammed dictionaries and thesauruses at her favorite catalog. “Perfect” she thought!
