On the cover of the June issue of House Beautiful one of the headlines reads, “WHAT YOU CAN DO IN A DAY”, this magazine has been sitting on my desk for a month and I felt empowered and inspired so over the weekend we decided to embark on a one day makeover project for our powder room. It’s the littlest room in our small 1936 cottage and was in desperate need for a makeover. The space is small so we decided to let our expression and creative juices flow. We were able to make a significant decorating impact with little time and expense and the look is fresh and new.
First stop, Lowes, love the wide aisles and clean assortment of creative imagination, just walking into the store makes you think about taking on projects that are well beyond your abilities. This Saturday all we needed was some fresh paint and painting supplies.
Second stop, Bed, Bath and Beyond, with my coupon in hand we purchased fresh new fluffy white towels.
Once we were home we scoured the floor, shower and fixtures. Painting only took about 2 hours and the fresh paint in a soft sea shell palette made all the difference. We were on our way to a successful makeover project.
Putting up the new light fixture was a little more complicated, but with a little help from our next door neighbor (thanks Ralph) the fixture was in place and we were feeling so pleased with the results. Now for the fun part, the accessories. My splurge for the makeover was my favorite piece from the new RSH Holiday at the Beach catalog - the Mother of Pearl Garden Seat, it had arrive three days earlier and was just beautiful. It’s simple clean design with a little shimmer was the perfect piece for our powder room. It looks like art but is a great place to stack our new fluffy white towels.
For the art, we had taken some photographs of the kids when they were babies in the bathtub up to Kinkos and had them blown up and printed onto canvas in black and white. The effect is impressive and the cost is easy to swallow. Finally we added a wonderful candle and some new apothecary jars and the job was done.
It is amazing what you can do in a day.
