Bunny In A Basket
Bunnies, chicks. More bunnies, more chicks!
Why eggs? Why bunnies? Why chicks? What do they have to do with Easter?
Simply put, spring is the season of rebirth and renewal. Centuries ago, pagan festivals included the symbols of fertility, among them, rabbits and eggs. As Chrisianity spread, in the spirit of community, missionaries began including eggs and rabbits in their festivities as well. In Germany in the 1600s, a story began to be told about an egg-laying rabbit who laid colored eggs (despite the fact that you may were under the impression the Easter Bunny is male, due to usually being deicted wearing a bow tie!). From Germany, the Pennsylvania Dutch brought the story of the Easter Bunny and his colored eggs with them. And the rest is history!
