In With The New YOU!
Before we get down to the business of 2014 ~
From RSH, a few items here to surround yourself with ~ lovely items that might sweeten life just a bit. After the hustle-bustle and stress of holidays, take an extra measure of comfort to start the next trip around the sun! Enjoy.
And here's a great, more serious thought for the new year:
Famed author Peter Drucker writes and speaks about self-motivation among other things. Instead of resolutions for a change, he has a great question for us to ask ourselves:
What do I want to be remembered for?
Do resolutions work? If you're making them, think of a few things:
Self compassion: reducing the guilt we feel when we have a set-back and increase self forgiveness. People who feel shame or guilt after a set-back are more likely to break a resolution. Cut yourself some slack.
Rewards: find small healthy rewards each time you do something favorable towards a resolution. Our brains respond well to simple rewards.
Sleep: Sleeping less than 6 hours a night will negatively affect your sticking to your resolutions. And bonus, sleeping 7 to 8 hours increases your brain’s ability to control cravings.
Time of day: willpower is stronger early in the day. Willpower decreases as our levels of fatigue increase. Better get that exercise in first thing in the morning!
Stress: stress and willpower are incompatible! Considering we are living in a hyper stressed world, no wonder many of us are having a hard time making good on our resolutions!
Talking ourselves out of it: Pay attention to how we talk ourselves out of making good on our resolution each day, and muster up more willpower!
Onward to 2014!
